Childhood Lead Poisoning Protection Program

The Health Department does follow up and investigates cases where a child or adult has gotten exposed to high levels of lead. This is a problem that affects children under six years of age most of all because their brains are still in the formative stages and more likely to be harmed even by eating very small amounts of lead paint or dust (and the younger children are of course more likely to put their dirty hands to their mouths or explore other objects by tasting them first!). Frequent hand washing can prevent not only lead poisoning but many other illnesses as well, please train your children about this easy method of protecting their health and safety.  When we do get a case of lead poisoning there are a number of steps that need to be taken including cleaning, nutrition, assessing the home or source for the lead and remediation or fixing of the home to stop any further exposure. Please call us and we can help you with all of these steps. Some financial help may be available as well to make the repairs needed. Rob Jase is our Lead Coordinator at present and he can usually be reached here on Mondays and Fridays at 937-3660.
